Aquaculture Technician

An Aquaculture Technician Internship provides students and recent graduates with practical, hands-on experience in a professional aquaculture environment. The internship is based within wet laboratory facilities and provides the opportunity to learn about fish husbandry, water quality management and modern aquaculture practices.

As an Aquaculture Technician Intern, you will receive comprehensive training and gain practical experience with Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS). You will develop an understanding of fish welfare, aquatic environments, water quality and the day-to-day operation of aquaculture facilities.

Responsibilities may include: 

  • Fish Husbandry: Assisting with the daily care, feeding and monitoring of fish under supervision.

  • Water Quality Monitoring: Supporting the monitoring of water quality parameters and learning how water conditions affect fish health and welfare.

  • RAS Systems: Gaining practical experience and an understanding of Recirculating Aquaculture Systems and their day-to-day operation.

  • Fish Health and Welfare: Assisting with the observation of fish behaviour, health and general welfare.

  • Wet Lab Activities: Supporting daily activities within the wet laboratory environment.

  • Aquaculture Practices: Learning about different aquaculture techniques, procedures and industry practices.

  • Equipment and Facility Maintenance: Assisting with the cleaning and basic maintenance of equipment and work areas.

  • Record Keeping: Supporting the recording of relevant information relating to fish care, water quality and daily operations.

  • Health and Safety: Following appropriate health, safety, hygiene and biosecurity procedures.

  • Team Support: Working alongside experienced aquaculture professionals and assisting with general day-to-day activities.
