When you own a business, everyone seems to look to you.

Your team needs answers. Clients need attention. Problems need solving. Decisions need making. And somehow, you’re expected to keep everything moving even on the days when you’re running on empty.

But who looks after the person at the top?

Business owners are often so focused on keeping their company healthy that they forget to check in on their own well-being. Long hours become normal. Weekends disappear. Holidays come with a laptop, and switching off can feel almost impossible.

The problem is that burnout doesn’t always arrive with a dramatic warning sign. Sometimes it looks like constant tiredness, losing motivation, becoming easily frustrated, struggling to concentrate, or simply no longer enjoying the business you worked so hard to build.

Taking care of yourself isn’t stepping away from your responsibilities. In many ways, it is part of your responsibility.

A business needs a leader who can think clearly, make good decisions, and see the bigger picture. That means creating boundaries, delegating where possible, taking proper breaks and accepting that you don’t have to carry everything alone.

Have you considered hosting an intern? Interns come at no cost to the company and can provide valuable support by taking on some of those tasks that may not be an immediate priority but are still lingering in the back of your mind and need to get done. It can be a simple way to ease some of the workload, while also giving someone the opportunity to gain valuable real-world experience.

You look after your employees.
You look after your clients.
You look after your business.

Maybe it’s time to ask: who’s looking after you?
